While at University I got a summer job working at a Garden Centre and Nursery. Now although I was primarily a retail and customer sales associate, I did dabble with the landscape department, also just working in and around the supplies and plants allowed me to learn a lot. As such, and then in addition to my construction and detailing knowledge, I have expanded my skills into helping out to do external works and landscape design for some of the offices I have worked for. If I can be of any help to you, please get in touch. Design Clinic - 2001 Exterior addition to existing farmhouse bungalow North of Ottawa in the Gatineau area. The owner wanted a new space that would inspire and encourage them to use the front of their home. London - 2003 Robert Dye Associates After successfully designing and developing the new extension for this property the clients asked me to design a garden to accentuate the new work. I was keen to portray the idea of playfulness. They had a young son who was full of joy and mischief. I also wanted to incorporate a touch of the nordic to the scheme as the female client is from Sweden. Based on a limited access urban plot, it was also essential that the garden be low maintenance. I incorporated a grassy knoll for children to play 'king of the hill' on and roll and run around. I also suggested we plant birch trees to remind them of Sweden along with bamboo for the soft rustle to keep away some of the street noise. The extensive decking and patio allowed for easier maintenance and seamless entertaining from inside to out. Malmesbury Nursing Home - 2008 The Quorum Partnership Architects I was asked to propose and create a courtyard sensory garden for a nursing home that my practice at the time was working on in Malmesbury, Wiltshire. In designing a sensory garden it is very important to consider accessibility, colour, texture, scent, heights and sound. We incorporated a water feature, seating, raised planters as well as a range of plantings from trees, flowers, bamboo, herbs and textured surfaces. The residents love it and it has proven to be low maintenance as well. Portsmouth Care Home - not yet built The Quorum Partnership Architects Design of two separate and different sensory gardens for the residents of this proposed care home in Portsmouth. Cheltenham Care Home - in planning The Quorum Partnership Architects Design and presentation of proposed external spaces and external works for a new care home. |
